Privacy Policy for Scholar Labs

1. Information We Collect

• Account Information:
  • When you create an account, we collect your email address, password (securely hashed), and optionally your name and profile photo.
  • If you sign in with Google or Apple, we collect your account email and profile information from the respective service.
• Usage Data:
  • We track your question usage, package purchases, and app activity (e.g., number of questions asked, image questions used, AI Assistant chats).
  • We store your question history, favorites, and learning statistics.
• Images and Content:
  • If you use the Take Photo, Upload Photo, or Ask with Image features, we process your images using OCR and AI. Images may be temporarily stored in Firebase Storage for processing.
• Purchase Data:
  • We use RevenueCat to manage in-app purchases and subscriptions. We do not store your payment information; this is handled by Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To provide and improve the App’s features and services.
• To personalize your experience and track your learning progress.
• To process purchases and manage your account.
• To communicate with you about updates and new features.
• To ensure security, prevent fraud, and comply with legal obligations.

3. How We Share Your Information

• We do not sell your personal information.
• We may share data with trusted third-party service providers (e.g., OpenAI, Firebase, RevenueCat, Mathpix) only as necessary to provide the App's features.
• We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights and users.

4. Data Security

• We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data.
• Your account is protected by your password and/or Google/Apple authentication.
• Please keep your login credentials secure.

5. Data Retention

• We retain your data as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services.
• You may delete your account at any time, which will permanently remove your data from our systems (subject to legal requirements).

6. Children's Privacy

• Scholar Labs is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
• If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

7. Third-Party Services

• OpenAI: We use OpenAI's API to provide AI-powered responses. Your questions and images may be processed by OpenAI in accordance with their privacy policy.
• Mathpix: We use Mathpix's OCR service to process mathematical equations from images. Images are processed according to Mathpix's privacy policy.
• Firebase: We use Google Firebase for authentication, data storage, and analytics in accordance with Google's privacy policy.
• RevenueCat: We use RevenueCat for subscription management. Payment processing is handled by Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

8. Your Rights

• You may access, update, or delete your account information at any time.
• You have the right to request a copy of your personal data.
• You have the right to request correction of inaccurate personal data.
• You have the right to request deletion of your personal data.

9. International Users

• If you are using the App from outside the United States, please note that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States.
• By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States.

10. Changes to This Policy

• The updated policy will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
